Bob Willis Trophy
County Cricket is underway but haven't seen a thread for it. The Bob Willis Trophy replaces the County Championship this season as the 4 day competition.

Opening round wins for Sussex against Hampsire, Derbyshire v Notts, Yorkshire v Durham, Leicestershire v Lancashire, Worcester v Gloucester, Somerset v Glamorgan and Middlesex v Surrey.

Warwickshire and Northants drew and most importantly Essex sent Kent packing back over the bridge with their tails between their legs.

It was discussed on the other cricket thread but you are quite right Essex should have a niche to itself.

Tried their best to lose, poor bowling display on day one and just scraped over the line yesterday.

Good knock by Tendo for 78 in the first innings, Big Chef's partnership with Feroze Khushi and Wheater trying to hold it all together after the top order had fallen were crucial yesterday.

Nice for Little Chef to hit the winning run on his birthday.

Convalescing for the next two months, gutted I can't get over to watch it.

Will have to make do with the webcam coverage and echoing commentary of the live streams.

Re: Bob Willis Trophy
Terrible shame that all the overseas players have had to agree to terminate their contracts or postpone them til next season.
Some counties are a bit short which is presumably why Kent had to field a 44yo.
Guessing he is their coach driver or kit man making up the numbers.

Re: Bob Willis Trophy
Young Feroze Khushi having a decent start to his first class career, looks an excellent prospect.

Vital parnetship with Ally Cook on Wednesday and a knock of 66 today, again another partnership with Big Chef 98 this time.

Essex 199-5

D'Oliveira and Libby put on 239* after Worcs were 70/3.

Decent recovery.

Re: Bob Willis Trophy
Poor batting, top bowling or a shocker of a wicket at Northampton?

Day 1 and Somerset already in their second innings after being all out for 166 and then getting Northants out for 67.

Northants v Somerset could be all over on Day 2, Somerset 175-8 in their second innings.

Big score by Worcester, currently 455-8 against Glamorgan.

Essex doing ok against Surrey 262 all out and currently have Surrey 36-3 at lunch.

Got to praise the sides genuinely raising and promoting England Internationals.

Surrey, Somerset, Yorkshire, Durham, Sussex and Warwickshire.

The others need a long hard look in the mirror and to have their ECB funding cut or minor county status imposed.

Maybe a bit of bias from myself but you could include Essex in that list.

For a county on a very tight budget they produce a good percentage of youngsters. Of the team playing against Surrey 10 of the side of come through the county only Harmer is the non-Englishman. Alastair Cook and Tom Westley have played for England and Jamie Porter has been on England Lions and A tours, and away on England duty is Dan Lawrence. Also part of the England set up Ben Foakes who started out at Essex but couldn't displace James Foster.

Throw in current England test coach Chris Silverwood as well.
